Audio or Video for learning, which one do you prefer?
Hi,
Some interesting comments on yesterday’s post. I would like to hear some more opinions.
I told you how I caught on to learning via audio. I joined the bandwagon late. But, I like this method of learning. Now, let’s talk about the video method of learning.
My first exposure to method of Video learning was Louis Allport’s video series on various topics. I think Louis does a fantastic job of covering so many IM strategies via video. He shows the how-to do in very simple manner. But, somehow in videos also I found the pace to be very slow and wished Louis would have given video transcript, so, I learn faster! I also loved Michael Rasmussen’s Email Promos Exposed and all informational videos released by John Reese.
I think with better bandwidth for internet connection around the world, the expectations about interactivity and liveliness of the internet medium has increased. Now, you see video trainings on different tactics of online marketing. Be it Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula or Jimmy D. Brown’s Online Business Basics or John Reese's Traffic Secrets. I think the videos do a great job for imparting learning and gives a better interactive medium to the learner.
The aspect that I like about these video courses is that they teach you the tactic by doing it in front of you and there is an accompanying audio commentary telling you why something is done, what is important and why it is important etc.
Videos are really good method of learning for people who are visual learners. It also goes with the saying “Seeing is believing”. Especially, the how-to videos on various topics show you exactly what you want to do for your business and that’s why it is the most popular type of video.
In audios learners are just limited to listening and there is an inactivity on their part, since only one sense out of all senses of body is used. Learning from videos involve at the least 2 senses. Also, there is a huge difference when watching a strategy getting implemented in front of your eyes Vs. just hearing about it on the audio.
Pros of Video Method of Learning:
- Very effective for How-to type of learning, as learners can see the complete process being done in front of them
- More engaging than audio or PDF
- Better than plain presentation files for concept or strategy kind of learning
So, what do you think about this? Please post your views here.
Tomorrow, I will let you know about my thoughts on learning from Seminars.
Regards,
Amar

I believe both methods are good for learning. Some topics may require both methods. For example, if someone is teaching about writing an ebook it may be neccessary to start of with audio since you may be discussing about ideas, grammer, and such. However as the lessons progress to explaining about the structure of the book, it may be neccessary to use video to show examples about the structure with layouts for aesthetic reasons.
I hope this helps.
